June 17 & 18, 2004 - Myrtle Beach KOA, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

This part of the state seems to be one giant mass of rampant consumerism. I thought a place like the Framingham/Natick Route 9 mall strip was something to shout about. Damn, how much supermarket specials, restaurant deals and cheap beach crap can you buy?

At the campground, I was determined to get a spot where I could get a good shot at the spot in the sky to get satellite. Of course the entire campsite is woods, SURROUNDED by strip malls and fast food joints. Pissed off Schnookie by refusing the first campsite and moving us over three rows next to a fifth wheel trailer which had a dish set up out front. I was JUST able to get a signal between some trees. We spent two days here because all the driving we making us nuts and this joint had a wireless Internet connection.

We did the beach front tourist attraction area. Blew twenty five bucks at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum (no pictures, the card wasn't in the camera); then played a couple of rounds of skeeball. Went inside the "Gay Dolphin" and scanned over the Myrtle Beach schwag. I thought for sure they would be selling bondage gear and gay smut. Oh well. (Hah! You wish!)

Yeah, I thought Myrtle Beach, like Virginia Beach, was kind of over-rated. Very touristy. I'm sure there were parts that we didn't get to see which were nicer, but I can only report on what we saw. I thought Ripley's was gruesome fun, but then I like to watch "Cops", "Cold Case Files," and "Trauma, Life in the ER."
